Coming from architectural background she earned from Parahyangan University, Joke Roos holds firm to her philosophy that functionality is the cornerstone of all of her works along with visual aesthetic. With truth, humanity, and simplicity as the fundamental philosophy, she co-founded Studio Air Putih alongside architect Denny Gondo.

How would you describe your style? Do you have any signature that you like to leave in your projects?

I always try to be meticulously attentive in treating a project. Give a careful attention to every detail, and most of all its quality. Because like a musical piece, every detail composed from individual tunes and then it coalesced into a beautiful harmony.

Interior designers are artists and probably like all artists need to search for inspiration from time to time. Who or what inspires you the most? Where do you search for your inspiration?

You can always find anything in nature. It has always been my unlimited source of inspiration. The things I’ve seen and my experiences also enriched my insights to the process.

You deem interior design as people-oriented industry, a collaboration with clients and design professionals. How do you manage to build a solid foundation of this relationship and remain in good standing?

Communication is vital to foster a good working relationship. Having shared understandings with open and honest communication will be rewarding for anyone involved in the project.

By choosing the right textures, colors and layout, the interior designer makes the home livable, creating a comfortable environment. Often, the architect and interior designer will collaborate to ensure that the design is everything the homeowner wants. How does this architecture and interior design harmony work out with you and Studio Air Putih?

We always keep it professional, each of us has a clear idea of our parts in the project. We define roles, responsibilities, and communication at the start of a project. In the end, our primary goal is to fulfill the client’s wishes and make them happy.

Choosing the right piece for a design set takes a lot of time and attention to find the perfect match. Which advice do you have for those who do not know how to start a challenge like this?

All ideas begin as a small need in your mind. Just relax, keep what you have as simple as possible.

Do you have a dream project? Some type of property you would love to work on?

I treat every project like a dream project. A new, unique plan to work on. So I’m always excited for my upcoming projects.
