MOIE x Omar Khan Rugs: Redefining Indonesian Heritage

Published by MOIE, March 12, 2020

Presenting our latest collaboration! MOIE teamed up with Omar Khan Rugs to reinterpret traditional Indonesian designs into something more modern and contemporary.

With a multi-cultural background of Dutch, Chinese, Egyptian, Pakistani, and German heritage, Omar Khan naturally acquires a rich source of aesthetic inspiration for his designs. He often references ancient symbols and historical motifs, recontextualizing them through modern abstraction and contemporary color palettes. Khan draws upon his expertise in furniture design, interior design, and illustration to develop rugs distinguished by their captivating compositions and exquisite craftsmanship.

Inspired by native Indonesian textiles such as Mega Mendung and Sumba Ikat, UDAHARA or “air” in Sanskrit is a modernised rendition of Indonesian heritage elevated to sit well with contemporary look. Omar Khan and MOIE collaboration were set in motion to anchor a cohesive look into an eclectic range of MOIE pieces.
