The Berlin-based design agency e27 was established by Tim Brauns, Hendrik Gackstatter and Fax Quintus to incorporate different areas of design, including web-, graphic-, corporate and product design into a consolidated design environment.
DESIGNER’s STORY
Riccardo Blumer
Born in Bergamo in1959. He graduated in Architecture at Politecnico of Milano in 1982. From 1983 to 1988 he worked together with arch. Mario Botta, in Lugano, and he was involved in projecting, exhibitions and publications. In 1988 he opened is studio in Morosolo (Varese). From 1988 on he has been working as an architect and designer cooperating with leading companies of the sector, and projecting important interiors, such as the Scala of Milan. As an architect he realized many buildings, such as two towers for offices in Cinisello Balsamo. As a professor, from 2002 to 2004, he is professor at The Academy of Architecture in Italian Switzerland. In 1997, he was awarded of the “Design Preis Schweiz”; in 1998 he got the “Compasso d’Oro”; in 1999 the prize “Catas” and in 2000 the “Observeur du Design”. In 1996 an exhibition about his work was held at Moebel et Function in Paris and a book, “Experiences of architecture and design” was published. In 1999 the book “Intersezioni” was published, edited by Gabriele Cappellato, with a series of realization of interior projects. The book has been presented the same year during the exhibition “Riccardo Blumer. Intersezioni”, at the Centro Culturale Svizzero of Milano. Between 2000 and 2002 “LaLeggera” chair has been exposed all over the world in the “Compasso d’oro ADI Award Italian Design from 1954 to 2001”, “Italian Design through a history of Compasso d’Oro ADI Award” and “A Century of Design, Part IV: 1957-2001”; in 2006 he was at IOM Exhibition in London. “LaLeggera” is a part of the permanent collection of Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, of Centre George Pompidou in Paris and of Triennale in Milan; it is exposed at the Centre of Contemporary Art of Cavalese (Trento) and at Museè d’Arts Dècoratifs in Paris. In 1995 he has been nominated secretary of the Scientific Committee that superintends tha birth of the Academy of Architecture of University of Italian Switzerland where, from 2002 to 2004, he is a professor He is now continuing its work in design about the structural resistances and relation between light and transparencies.
Matteo Borghi
Matteo Borghi, was born in Varese in 1976, where in 1994 he finished the high school at Liceo Artistico “A. Frattini”. In 2004 he graduated in Architecture at Politecnico of Milan. He has been working from ever in the family company which produces jewels, silverware and sacred art. Between 2003 and 2004 he cooperated with some architectural studios.From January 2005 he works in the studio of arch.Riccardo Blumer and he is a co-author of Design projects.
